What is the safest, most effective rate at which to lose weight, so I am less likely to gain it back again?

Most fitness experts will tell you that it is best to keep your weight loss at a slow but steady rate of no more than 1 or 2 pounds per week, maximum.  Statistics do show that “slow and steady wins the race.”  You are less likely to veer off your course without an extreme lifestyle adjustment.  Instead, try ridding yourself of one or two small bad habits at a time.  These small adjustments in your course will steer you in the right direction, without the detours and failures often associated with attempts to radically alter your diet.
